Areca vestiaria 'Red Form' - Red Crownshaft Palm

Areca vestiaria 'Red Form,' commonly known as the Red Crownshaft Palm, is a remarkable tropical palm celebrated for its vivid red crownshaft and lush, arching green fronds. This unique palm features a smooth, slender trunk topped by a striking red crownshaft that adds a bold, tropical aesthetic to any landscape. Reaching a mature height of 4–6 meters, the Red Crownshaft Palm is ideal for adding height, color, and architectural interest to tropical and subtropical gardens, as well as large indoor spaces.

Position

Areca vestiaria Red Form thrives in partial to full sun and prefers warm, humid conditions. It is well-suited for tropical and subtropical climates, though it is sensitive to frost and should be protected from cold temperatures. For optimal growth, plant in a sheltered area to shield its fronds from strong winds.

Growth

This moderately growing palm reaches a mature height of 4–6 meters with a spread of about 2 meters. Its vibrant red crownshaft and gracefully arching fronds make it an eye-catching feature plant in garden beds, tropical landscapes, or as a focal point in large containers.

Planting Guide

Areca vestiaria 'Red Form' grows best in well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Plant in spring or early summer, spacing the palm to allow for its full spread. For container planting, use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix and place in a bright area with indirect light. Water thoroughly after planting, and apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain soil moisture.

Plant Care

Water consistently, ensuring the soil remains evenly moist but not waterlogged, especially during warmer months. Red Crownshaft Palm thrives in high humidity, so misting the fronds or placing a humidifier nearby is beneficial, particularly if grown indoors. Fertilise every 2–3 months with a slow-release fertilszer formulated for palms to encourage lush growth and maintain the vibrant red crownshaft. Prune any yellow or damaged fronds to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage new growth.

My dog likes it!
Size: Medium, Color: Antler, Size: Medium, Color: Antler
My aggressive chewer loves it! I have a 20 pound rat terrier ....small was recommended, but we went with a medium. He went to work on it right away. He is not picky about chew bones but it makes me feel better that it is a natural material. The chewed photo is about 30 mins after giving it to him.

Not for us!
Size: Large, Color: Antler
I'm sure for a dog that doesn't chew, would be great. Ours went through it in days, leaving sharp shards and making his gums bleed.

Power Chewer Loves This!
Size: Medium, Color: Antler
This is my dog's new favorite chew! She loves that she can hold it in her paws. I think she really loves the taste and texture of it. I don't give her antlers as I have heard too many horror stories about broken teeth. I also don't give her nylon toys as I have also heard a lot of horror stories of broken teeth as well as concerns about them digesting the plastic. This is between antlers and bully sticks, which is perfect for a power chewer. I feel comfortable with her eating the pieces that flake off this toy. She loves chewing and she will default to this toy when she wants to help calm down. I don't notice much of a smell. It does flake, but not enough I will even take a star off. Plus, it's plant based and vacuums up easily once dried. It doesn't capture her attention as much as bully sticks or beef cheek chews, but it's much less expensive over time and doesn't stink up our living room! She will also always pick this over any of her rubber chews. Great product and recommend it for all the power chewers.

Crumbly, odd texture
Size: Large, Color: Duo Pack
Neither of my dogs were very interested in these. They did chew on the antler-shaped versions more so than the infinity-style versions. When they did chew on these, they didn’t hold up well or last long. These have a strange, crumbly texture when chewed. You’ll find bits and pieces of these chews where the dogs have been chewing. Will not be reordering.
